Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami presents Spanish Classical Nights

Accessing the Spaniard roots of the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami, “Spanish Classical Night” will include some of the best pieces of classical repertoire where both the subject and styles emphasize the relationship between classical ballet and traditional Spanish dance that has been an important influence in the repertoire of the 19th and 20th century ballets.

The program will feature: “Paquita” the first work ever staged by Petipa in Russia the late 1800s; “Esmeralda” pas de six, a ballet inspired by the Victor Hugo novel Notre-Dame de Paris , presented in London in 1844. “Don Quixote” pas de deux taken from the famous novel and ballet Don Quixote de la Mancha first presented by Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet in 1869.

Principal Dancers of Ballet Nacional Dominicano will perform Alberto Alonso’s “Carmen,” the definitive version, coached by the late Cuban choreographer’s wife Sonia Calero who will receive the first “Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami Artistic Achievement Award”, at the performance.
