Camille A. Brown / Black Girl: Linguistic Play

February 20, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm EST

$28   BUY TICKETS

Using the rhythmic play of double-dutch, steppin’, tap, ring shout and other African-American social dances, dancer/choreographer Camille A. Brown addresses the complexity of carving out a positive identity as a black female in urban American culture. In a society where black women are often only portrayed in terms of their strength, resiliency, or trauma, this performance represents a more nuanced spectrum of black womanhood in a racially and politically charged world. Brown, who danced with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ronald K. Brown’s Evidence, and Rennie Harris’ Pure Movement, has been hailed as “Gutsy. Wild. Smart. Original,” by Dance Magazine. Miami debut.
