40th Intl. Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami: “Carrusel”

Teatro Avante and Miami-Dade County Auditorium, in partnership with the Roxy Theater, presents “Carrusel” as part of the 40ᵗʰ International Hispanic Theatre Festival, on Thursday, September 3, Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5 at 8:30 pm and Sunday, September 6 at 5:00 pm at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center (WCAC).

Parece ser un país en reciente democracia que ha vivido un convulso y extenso período de dictadura. O quizás es al contrario, aunque los personajes no sean conscientes, o no deban decirlo. En medio de una clase de Matemáticas, una adolescente comienza a agredir a sus compañeros de modo inesperado y violento. La maestra se reúne con el abuelo, su tutor legal, para analizar la extraña conducta, que ha generado notables daños físicos incluso a la propia menor. El diálogo con una doctora aportará más incertidumbres que certezas, pero abrirá la puerta a un pasado que, poco a poco, moviéndonos entre dos tiempos, irá revelando secretos vínculos entre estos cuatro seres y dictará sus destinos.

It appears to be a country in the wake of a recent democracy, following a long and turbulent period of dictatorship. Or perhaps it is quite the opposite, though the characters are either unaware or dare not say. In the middle of a Mathematics class, a teenager begins to attack her classmates with unexpected violence. The teacher meets with the grandfather, her legal guardian, to analyze this strange behavior, which has caused notable physical harm even to the girl herself. A dialogue with a doctor will offer more uncertainties than certainties, but it will open a door to a past that, shifting between two timelines, will gradually reveal secret links between these four beings and dictate their destinies.
