DESCRIPTION:“La Fille Mal Gardée” celebrates the pastoral life of 18th Century France – where love triumphed wealth. A fun comedic ballet with beautiful sets\, costumes\, and Cuban ballet stars – the mother of a precocious girl named Lise keeps her at home in hopes she’ll marry the son of a wealthy businessman. But stubborn Lise is in love with Colas – a boy with very little. Choreographed by Jean Dauberval\, the ballet premiered at the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux in 1789 – two weeks before the French Revolution. It is a landmark of modern ballet repertory – having lived through many revivals\, title changes\, and six scores. \nThe Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami continues to recognize the work\, dedication\, and cultural legacy of dance in our community by prominent teachers and choreographers of our city – honoring them with the “Artistic Achievement Award”. DESCRIPTION:In this classic performance the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami will highlight excerpts from one of the most musical and visually exotic ballets of the 19th century. “Le Corsaire Suite” is a tale of Sultans\, princesses\, maidens and pirates\, with a libretto based on the poem The Corsair by Lord Byron. It was first presented by the Ballet of the Académie Royale de Musique\, Paris\, France in 1856\, originally choreographed by the Ballet master Joseph Mazilier to the music of Adolphe Adam. El Matrimonio Secreto (The Secret Marriage) highlights will launch on April 16\, 2020.  \nFlorida Grand Opera has commissioned a new translation and created a new production of one of the most successful comic operas from the late 18th century with a Miami twist performed in Spanish. Now updated and relocated to South Florida with a Cuban family in the 1980s running Hotel Paraiso on Miami Beach. The new Spanish translated production features the six characters getting into awkward cultural situations\, caught in compromising positions\, and drinking Cuba Libres (Rum and Coke) until a family secret uncovers. \nEl matrimonio secreto is the perfect opera for anyone who loves the music of Rossini (The Barber of Seville) and the comedy of Mozart (The Marriage of Figaro). Discover this charming score and become part of bochinche (gossip) when a father attempts to marry off his two daughters who already have plans for the future with a telenovela (Spanish soap opera) spin. \nPlease note: No late seating / No reentry / Children must be at least six years old to attend. \nFood and beverage will be allowed in the lobby but not inside of the Auditorium. \nThe doors will open 90 minutes before show time. \nSung in Spanish with English and Spanish projected translations. \nPLEASE NOTE: New procedures are being implemented in an effort to enhance the safety of our patrons and all those who visit MDCA.
