DESCRIPTION:“Flowers For Spring” are two choreographed portraits of an aging mind: ‘Abuela’ and ‘Daydreaming With Jean’‘Abuela’ is about Maria Gran Nick who lived with dementia for 15 years\, spending the rest of her days living out the fantasies of her past. The piece expresses the duality of Maria’s mind and it journey’s through her memories as a young Jewish-Polish woman living in Havana\, Cuba during the 1940’s. ‘Daydreaming With Jean’ is about Jean Teemer McCracken and takes place inside the mind Jean\, an old woman who slipped into dementia during the last few months of her life. When this happened it was as though she split into a thousand pieces\, left with only fragments of herself.

DESCRIPTION:The program will feature scenes from such classic operettas as “Naughty Marietta” (Herbert)\, “Giuditta” (Lehar) and “The New Moon” (Romberg).  In the zarzuela segment the ensemble will perform scenes and selections from “Luisa Fernanda” (Moreno-Torroba)\, “La Tempranica” (Gimenez) and “La Verbena de la Paloma (Breton).  Among the artists performing are soprano Mia Rojas who recently sang the title role in the University of Miami production of “Suor Angelica” by Puccini and tenor Jesse Vargas who sang the title role in “The Count of Luxemburg” presented by Pro-Arte Grateli.  The cast also includes soprano Rebecca Henriques who performed this year with the Florida Grand Opera\, Jennifer Voigt\, soprano\, who also performed with the University of Miami in their production of “Gianni Schicchi” (Puccini) and ballet dancers Yessenia Vega and Christopher Hall.
