SUMMARY:Climakaze - 2016 / The Psychoanalysis of Climate Change by Xavier Cortada
DESCRIPTION:The Psychoanalysis of Climate Change is a new performance experience conceived of by Miami’s own Xavier Cortada\, current Artist-in-Residence at Florida International University’s School of Environment\, Arts\, Society & the College of Arts & Sciences\, and College of Architecture + The Arts. The work exposes what often feels like an unnamed crisis of the human psyche around climate change and environmental collapse realizations–both in our consciousness and subconscious.

SUMMARY:Climakaze - 2016 / This World Made Itself by Miwa Matreyek
DESCRIPTION:This World Made Itself is a multimedia live performance work combining projected animation and the artist’s own shadow silhouette as she interacts with the fantastical world of the video\, merging film and theater to create something that is its own kind of spectacle. Created and performed by Los Angeles based artist Miwa Matreyek\, This World Made Itself is a visually and musically-rich journey through the history of the earth\, from the universe’s epic beginnings to the complex world of humans. The piece is at once semi-scientific (like flipping through a children’s encyclopedia)\, and emotional and dream-like\, rich in surrealism\, metaphor\, and fantasy.

SUMMARY:This Changes Everything - the movie
DESCRIPTION:What if confronting the climate crisis is the best chance we’ll ever get to build a better world? Filmed over 211 shoot days in nine countries and five continents over four years\, This Changes Everything is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change. Throughout the film\, Klein builds to her most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.

SUMMARY:Flowers for Spring
DESCRIPTION:“Flowers For Spring” are two choreographed portraits of an aging mind: ‘Abuela’ and ‘Daydreaming With Jean’‘Abuela’ is about Maria Gran Nick who lived with dementia for 15 years\, spending the rest of her days living out the fantasies of her past. The piece expresses the duality of Maria’s mind and it journey’s through her memories as a young Jewish-Polish woman living in Havana\, Cuba during the 1940’s. ‘Daydreaming With Jean’ is about Jean Teemer McCracken and takes place inside the mind Jean\, an old woman who slipped into dementia during the last few months of her life. When this happened it was as though she split into a thousand pieces\, left with only fragments of herself.

SUMMARY:Farhad & the Journey by Nilo Cruz
DESCRIPTION:Farhad is a fifteen-year-old girl on the outskirts of Kabul who disguises herself as a boy to blend in a world where being a man is almost as being divine. She encounters herself in a difficult predicament\, and chants to her God in a lament. The Journey of the Shadow\, as his author estates\, is “ a story for children and for those adults who take delight in the remnants of innocence”. This magical tale takes us through the journey of Marcelo Miguel\, an eight-year-old boy who decides to write a letter to his father\, a soldier fighting in Afghanistan. Nilo Cruz gets to the core of two souls in search of truth and unconditional love. Two young souls who have encountered pain and\, courageously\, defy destiny. Directed by Nilo Cruz and Andy Señor.

SUMMARY:Host by Pioneer Winter & Jared Sharon
DESCRIPTION:HOST is an all-male work that explores power\, authority\, control\, isolation\, and desire. Within these paths\, the word ‘host’ emerges as both sexualized territory as well as a bodily struggle. ‘Host’ is a word that is especially layered in the queer community\, where one word is so weighted by both history and its digital presence – host of a dinner party\, host of a game show\, host to an orgy\, host to a virus…

SUMMARY:Antigonón by Rogelio Orizondo
DESCRIPTION:This epic work\, Antigonón by Rogelio Orizondo\, directed by Carlos Díaz\, departs from the myth of Antigone to fuse with old and new heroes of Cuban history. All these myths\, and particularly the myth of renowned poet José Martí\, considered the founder of Cuban revolutionary thought\, join in the Greek tragic chorus to serve up a remix of frustrations and demands placed upon the bodies of the performers. Between derision and poetry\, between travesty and reality\, the spectacle becomes the mirror of a society that maintains a strained relationship with the past and its own history. SUMMARY:Yellow Dream Road by Rogelio Orizondo
DESCRIPTION:This new play examines the relationship between Miami and Havana; written in Miami by visiting Cuban dramaturge and playwright Rogelio Orizondo from Cuba; directed by renowned director Carlos Diaz of Havana’s Teatro El Publico; and performed by Lili Renteria\, Mabel Roch\, Osvaldo Doimeadios\, Javier Fano\, Mabel Valiente\, and Alegnis Castillo. Yellow Dream Rd. is an address in the United States of America where perhaps Dorotea Castillo\, a young Cuban girl recently exiled in Miami\, might live. Or it might be where the Virgin of Perpetual Charity (La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre) might take refuge\, because she dreams too much. Or perhaps it is a place where a group of Cuban actors perform their personal take on The Wizard of Oz.
