Cuban musicologist\, Isidro Betancourt\, has been researching and working for years to rescue the music of Lico Jimenez\, whose career is unknown inside Cuba. Maestro Urbay has joined the project to rescue Jimenez’s music\, presenting to the world another Cuban composer who shaped the greatness of Cuban music of the 19th century. SUMMARY:Hispanic Heritage Celebration by Alhambra Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month\, the Alhambra Orchestra kicks off their new season with a free performance of Spanish and Spanish-influenced masterpieces on Saturday\, September 23 at Miami-Dade County Auditorium. Led by Conductor Daniel Andai\, the orchestra will perform favorites such as Ravel’s Bolero\, the Ritual Fire Dance from DeFalla’s El Amor Brujo\, and Danzon No. 2 by Marquez\, plus several popular Spanish songs. The orchestra will be joined by guest performers\, the Doral Symphony Orchestra with singers Manuel Arvelaiz and Roque Cedeno. \nThe Alhambra Orchestra is Miami’s community orchestra\, dedicated to promoting live classical performances and music education. This free event is presented in partnership with Miami-Dade County Auditorium as a service to the local community. \nThere will be a service fee of $0.75 per ticket when RSVPing online through Ticketmaster. RSVP in-person at the MDCA box office\, open Monday-Friday at 9am-4pm\, to avoid service fee charges. SUMMARY:Tourist Development Council (TDC) Grants Program Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Tourist Development Council (TDC) Grants Program is responsive on a quarterly basis to organizations/events which promote Miami-Dade County’s appeal as a tourist destination by sponsoring tourist-oriented sports events\, cultural and special events (visual and performing arts\, including theater\, concerts\, recitals\, opera\, dance\, art exhibitions\, and festivals) and television origination projects.  Applicants not meeting these criteria should consider applications to other Department programs. The TDC will provide priority attention to grant requests for activities and events that serve as major tourism generators in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year (July – September). The TDC\, a nine member volunteer advisory board established by Florida Statute\, meets as a panel to review and make funding recommendations to the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners with the idea of developing and enhancing the image of Miami-Dade County locally\, nationally and internationally. \n
