SUMMARY:MDCA Away from Home: Teatro Avante presents "Lear"
DESCRIPTION:Teatro Avante and Miami-Dade County Auditorium presents “Lear\,” written and directed by Neher Jacqueline Briceño\, on Thursday\, February 19 – Saturday\, February 21 at 8:30 pm and Sunday\, February 22 at 5:00 pm at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center. \nInspired by William Shakespeare’s “King Lear.” The demise of patriarchal power through a fragmented journey as seen through King Lear’s memory is the premise that sustains this contemporary perspective on the Shakespearean classic\, where the internal confrontations between father and daughter and the consequences of power take center stage. Among them\, a young figure\, the jester\, the echo\, the bridge\, bursts with truths that can no longer be silenced because in Lear\, time stops moving; it repeats itself\, dissolves\, and opens like a wound that transforms the old King’s memory into a battlefield. \nCast: Julio Rodríguez\, Claudia Valdés\, Claudia Tomás\, Laura Alemán\, and Daniel Romero. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series. SUMMARY:MDCA Away from Home: Bistoury Physical Theatre and Film "Soft Zone" & "Mechanical Ballet"
DESCRIPTION:Bistoury Physical Theatre and Film and Miami-Dade County Auditorium\, in collaboration with O Cinema\, presents “Soft Zone\,” directed by Carla Forte\, and “Mechanical Ballet\,” directed by Alexey Taran\, performed on Friday\, May 8 at 8:30 pm\, at Little River Performance Space.  \nEach evening features both works in a shared program\, bringing the pieces into direct and indirect dialogue. While created independently\, both works explore the body as a site of perception\, control\, vulnerability\, and resistance. Through movement\, image\, sound\, and presence\, the program offers an immersive experience reflecting on contemporary systems of power while opening space for sensitivity\, pause\, and transformation. \nMechanical Ballet is a multimedia dance work that exposes the friction between the human body and the mechanical\, digital\, industrial\, and power systems that shape contemporary life. Rooted in movement born from pure emotion\, the piece reveals how the body is progressively shaped by efficiency\, automation\, and constant productivity. The work offers a sensory and critical experience reflecting on dehumanization and alienation\, while opening space for sensitivity and presence as acts of resistance. \nSoft Zone is a multimedia performance that inhabits the threshold between body and thought\, where listening and presence create a shared\, sensitive space for transformation. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series. SUMMARY:MDCA Away From Home: ARCA Images presents "Variaciones para un tema insignificante" by Carlos Celdrán
DESCRIPTION:ARCA Images and Miami-Dade County Auditorium presents the world premiere of “Variaciones para un tema insignificante” (Variations on an Insignificant Theme)\, a new work written and directed by Carlos Celdrán\, on April 24 – May 3 at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series. SUMMARY:MDCA Away from Home: "Whistling to Death" The Poetry of Nilo Cruz in Song
DESCRIPTION:Arca Images and Miami-Dade County Auditorium presents the World Premiere of “Whistling to Death” The Poetry of Nilo Cruz in Song\, a one-time concert event\, taking place Saturday\, June 13\, 2026\, at 5:30 pm at the Sanctuary of the Arts. \nConceived as part of Three Times Cruz\, this musical evening brings the poetry and dramatic imagination of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz into song. With music composed and performed by Miranda\, musical arrangements by Carlos Silva\, and a script by Alexa Kuve\, the concert creates an intimate journey through memory\, exile\, childhood\, disguise\, language\, and the secret signals by which human beings insist on being seen. \nThrough a sequence of songs and narration\, Whistling to Death explores the recurring landscapes of Cruz’s theatre and poetry: the body as a room of memory\, language as a refuge\, exile as both wound and invention\, and beauty as an act of resistance. The concert invites audiences into a world where ordinary objects — a scarf\, a bicycle\, a piece of fruit\, a bundle of papers — become charged with longing\, danger\, and revelation. \nPresented in Spanish with English supertitles. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series. DESCRIPTION:FUNDarte\, Miami-Dade County Auditorium and the Koubek Center presents RESET by Alfonso Barón\, Luciano Cortés\, and Luciano Rosso on Friday\, August 28 and Saturday\, August 29\, 2026 at 8:00 pm at the Koubek Center. \nIn RESET\, performers Alfonso Barón\, Luciano Cortés\, and Luciano Rosso create a theatrical experience in which the body becomes the last truly human territory. Through physical theater\, extreme gesture\, absurdist humor\, and hypnotic choreographic precision\, the work explores the cycles of collapse and renewal that define contemporary life. What begins as a technological concept\, the act of rebooting a system\, is transformed into a powerful metaphor for humanity’s attempts to recover\, adapt\, and reinvent itself after each crisis. \nAs artificial intelligence continues to reshape the way we work\, communicate\, and create\, RESET offers a response rooted in the body. The performers embrace imperfection\, exhaustion\, vulnerability\, and resilience\, revealing something deeply human in the process of beginning again. Enhanced by the evocative set and costume design of Celia Ledón\, the production inhabits a world suspended between the industrial\, the futuristic\, and the organic\, reflecting a society in constant transformation. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series. Programming continues to thrive during this period of renovation through the Away From Home Series. The series consists of off-site performances presented at alternative venues with community partners\, ensuring that the magic of the performing arts continues to captivate audiences throughout this transition period. The Away From Home Series presents dance\, theatre\, and music performances that take place at a variety of South Florida facilities and cultural centers. MDCA remains committed to keeping the spirit of creativity alive during this monumental endeavor and invites you to join us away from home!

DESCRIPTION:Teatro Avante and Miami-Dade County Auditorium\, in partnership with the Roxy Theater\, presents “Carrusel” as part of the 40ᵗʰ International Hispanic Theatre Festival\, on Thursday\, September 3\, Friday\, September 4 and Saturday\, September 5 at 8:30 pm and Sunday\, September 6 at 5:00 pm at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center (WCAC). \nIt appears to be a country in the wake of a recent democracy\, following a long and turbulent period of dictatorship. Or perhaps it is quite the opposite\, though the characters are either unaware or dare not say. In the middle of a Mathematics class\, a teenager begins to attack her classmates with unexpected violence. The teacher meets with the grandfather\, her legal guardian\, to analyze this strange behavior\, which has caused notable physical harm even to the girl herself. A dialogue with a doctor will offer more uncertainties than certainties\, but it will open a door to a past that\, shifting between two timelines\, will gradually reveal secret links between these four beings and dictate their destinies. \nPresented in Spanish with English supertitles. Part of the 40ᵗʰ International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami and MDCA’s Hot Theatre Summer Series. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series. SUMMARY:40th Intl. Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami: "Zombi Manifiesto"
DESCRIPTION:Teatro Avante and Miami-Dade County Auditorium\, in partnership with the Roxy Theater\, presents “Zombi Manifiesto” as part of the 40ᵗʰ International Hispanic Theatre Festival\, on Thursday\, September 10\, Friday\, September 11 and Saturday\, September 12 at 8:30 pm at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center (WCAC). \nFifty years after the coup d’état in Uruguay\, theatre remains a space for debate. The corpse of a military officer disappears following a clandestine exhumation and a kidnapping. An exemplary bureaucrat demands a dignified burial. The dead man appears and calls for justice. When memory works in reverse\, bodies resurface. Karl Marx argued that history occurs twice: first as tragedy\, then as farce. Meanwhile\, two young people ask themselves what the best tool is to change the world: political correctness or class consciousness? Marxist philosophy continues to shed light on an economic system that produces the living dead. “Capital is an abstract parasite\, a gigantic vampire\, a maker of zombies; but the fresh flesh it turns into dead labor is ours\, and the zombies it creates are ourselves\,” writes Mark Fisher in his book Capitalist Realism. From this emerge the eleven scenes of this Zombie Manifesto\, echoing the eleven theses on Feuerbach\, which propose that it is not enough to interpret the world in different ways\, the point is to transform it. \nPresented in Spanish with English supertitles.
