SUMMARY:40th Intl. Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami: "Carrusel"
DESCRIPTION:Teatro Avante and Miami-Dade County Auditorium\, in partnership with the Roxy Theater\, presents “Carrusel” as part of the 40ᵗʰ International Hispanic Theatre Festival\, on Thursday\, September 3\, Friday\, September 4 and Saturday\, September 5 at 8:30 pm and Sunday\, September 6 at 5:00 pm at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center (WCAC). \nIt appears to be a country in the wake of a recent democracy\, following a long and turbulent period of dictatorship. Or perhaps it is quite the opposite\, though the characters are either unaware or dare not say. In the middle of a Mathematics class\, a teenager begins to attack her classmates with unexpected violence. The teacher meets with the grandfather\, her legal guardian\, to analyze this strange behavior\, which has caused notable physical harm even to the girl herself. A dialogue with a doctor will offer more uncertainties than certainties\, but it will open a door to a past that\, shifting between two timelines\, will gradually reveal secret links between these four beings and dictate their destinies. \nPresented in Spanish with English supertitles. Part of the 40ᵗʰ International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami and MDCA’s Hot Theatre Summer Series. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series. Programming continues to thrive during this period of renovation through the Away From Home Series. The series consists of off-site performances presented at alternative venues with community partners\, ensuring that the magic of the performing arts continues to captivate audiences throughout this transition period. The Away From Home Series presents dance\, theatre\, and music performances that take place at a variety of South Florida facilities and cultural centers. MDCA remains committed to keeping the spirit of creativity alive during this monumental endeavor and invites you to join us away from home!

SUMMARY:40th Intl. Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami: "Zombi Manifiesto"
DESCRIPTION:Teatro Avante and Miami-Dade County Auditorium\, in partnership with the Roxy Theater\, presents “Zombi Manifiesto” as part of the 40ᵗʰ International Hispanic Theatre Festival\, on Thursday\, September 10\, Friday\, September 11 and Saturday\, September 12 at 8:30 pm at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center (WCAC). \nFifty years after the coup d’état in Uruguay\, theatre remains a space for debate. The corpse of a military officer disappears following a clandestine exhumation and a kidnapping. An exemplary bureaucrat demands a dignified burial. The dead man appears and calls for justice. When memory works in reverse\, bodies resurface. Karl Marx argued that history occurs twice: first as tragedy\, then as farce. Meanwhile\, two young people ask themselves what the best tool is to change the world: political correctness or class consciousness? Marxist philosophy continues to shed light on an economic system that produces the living dead. “Capital is an abstract parasite\, a gigantic vampire\, a maker of zombies; but the fresh flesh it turns into dead labor is ours\, and the zombies it creates are ourselves\,” writes Mark Fisher in his book Capitalist Realism. From this emerge the eleven scenes of this Zombie Manifesto\, echoing the eleven theses on Feuerbach\, which propose that it is not enough to interpret the world in different ways\, the point is to transform it. \nPresented in Spanish with English supertitles.
