SUMMARY:MDCA Away from Home: La Muchacha and El Propio Junte & Pascuala Ilabaca and Fauna Double Bill Concert
DESCRIPTION:FUNDarte and Rhythm Foundation\, with Miami-Dade County Auditorium “Away From Home” series and Live Arts Miami “Mundo” series\, present a double bill event featuring “La Muchacha” (Colombia) & “Pascuala Ilabaca and Fauna” (Chile) on April 5 at the Miami Beach Bandshell\, as part of FUNDarte’s “Out (Loud) in the Tropics” series. \nLa Muchacha is a rising star in the world of contemporary Colombian music. A musical descendent of the beloved tradition of Latin protest folk — think legends like Violeta Parra and Mercedes Sosa — her songs quickly became anthems for uprisings\, marches and vigils\, supporting peace activists\, eco-initiatives and other activists. She incorporates traditional instruments like the small guitar-like tiple and the tambora drum with electronic elements for a sound that feels fresh\, modern and uniquely her own. Replete with moments of roots rhythms\, subtle jazz and blues exploration\, and a dash of hip-hop\, hers is a deeply universal sound. This is her Florida debut. \nWhile her music is rooted in Chilean folk traditions\, singer-songwriter and acordeonista Pascuala Ilabaca deftly weaves strands of jazz\, pop\, rock\, and other influences into the mix. Ilabaca has dedicated herself to rediscovering the musical treasures of her country: her first album\, “Pascuala canta a Violeta\,” is an homage to Chilean composer\, songwriter\, and folklorist Violeta Parra. Ilabaca’s voice is as vibrant as the brilliant red accordion she plays — whether she’s singing a heartfelt interpretation of a Víctor Jara song\, or bringing the audience to its feet for a Chilean festival dance tune. With her band\, Fauna\, she swings easily through Chilean genres like the cumbia or the cueca (considered Chile’s national dance style)\, but don’t be surprised if you hear hints of Indian or African rhythms\, too. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series. SUMMARY:Pioneer Winter Collective: "Apollo"
DESCRIPTION:Pioneer Winter Collective\, Miami Light Project\, and FUNDarte presents “Apollo\,” in partnership with Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home series\, on Friday\, April 25 and Saturday\, April 26 at the Miami Theater Center. \nApollo is a dance-theater work exploring intergenerational queer dynamics\, memory\, HIV/AIDS\, and legacy. This biomythography uses dance-theater to delve into the intersection of personal history\, cultural memory\, and mythology. \nApollo centers on legacy\, connection\, and features bodies and voices that are left out of the canon. It also confronts ageism and reimagines who gets to be seen and celebrated on-stage. At the heart of our work is a profound exploration of the human body. The work we create expands what dance can be\, so bodies survive\, thrive\, and are witnessed. The effects of constant erasure based on race\, body type\, age\, gender\, and ability are evident – and this goes for both the artists as well as the audience. \nYou won’t want to miss our most deeply personal and urgent work to date. Along with Miami Light Project\, Apollo is co-presented with FUNDarte as part of Out (Loud) in the Tropics\, and in partnership with Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home series. \n————————— \n \nThis performance is part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series.
