DESCRIPTION:As is customary\, GCF celebrates the eclectic and vanguard of contemporary Cuban music\, with an outstanding program that brings together some of the most recognized musicians from Cuba and Spain. The program includes sets by Iván “Melon” Lewis\, one of the most recognized jazz pianists of his generation; by Yadam\, the singer songwriter who in the last few years has escalated from a young promising artists to an established voice in the music scene; and by Pavel Urkiza y La Ruta de las Almas Band\, a musical journey without precedent directed by a Cuban artists who fuses traditional Sephardic sounds with Afro-Latin music.

This magical tale takes us through the journey of Marcelo Miguel\, an eight-year-old boy who decides to write a letter to his father\, a soldier fighting in Afghanistan. Nilo Cruz gets to the core of two souls in search of truth and unconditional love. Two young souls who have encountered pain and\, courageously\, defy destiny. Directed by Nilo Cruz and Andy Señor.

DESCRIPTION:Led by Sonia Destri Lie and Companhia Urbana de Dança\nVirtuosic dancers from Rio de Janeiro fuse hip-hop\, samba\, capoeira\, and contemporary dance in the boldly imaginative choreography of Sonia Destri Lie’s Companhia Urbana de Dança. This eclectic fusion will be a dance experience that is not to be missed. The workshop will use balance\, perception of space\, displacement\, body awareness\, and contemporary dance techniques to explore the ways in which urban dance embodies freedom. Students can expect challenging endurance exercises and strength conditioning\, as well as opportunities to work in groups to create choreographic sequences. Open to all levels. SUMMARY:Flowers for Spring
DESCRIPTION:“Flowers For Spring” are two choreographed portraits of an aging mind: ‘Abuela’ and ‘Daydreaming With Jean’‘Abuela’ is about Maria Gran Nick who lived with dementia for 15 years\, spending the rest of her days living out the fantasies of her past. The piece expresses the duality of Maria’s mind and it journey’s through her memories as a young Jewish-Polish woman living in Havana\, Cuba during the 1940’s. ‘Daydreaming With Jean’ is about Jean Teemer McCracken and takes place inside the mind Jean\, an old woman who slipped into dementia during the last few months of her life. When this happened it was as though she split into a thousand pieces\, left with only fragments of herself.
